This Case Epilogue written February 1, 2017 is intended to provide context to this web site as it documents a Canadian constitutional challenge spanning from 2004 to 2016. Bruce Montague determined to expose the constitutional violations in the Canadian Firearms Act. After being charged, mounting a constitutional challenge and appealing to the Supreme Court of Canada, Montague's case was dismissed without reasons. With Bruce in jail, the Montagues then faced an another twist of injustice -- the confiscation of their home and property by the Ontario government. The Montagues fought the civil forfeiture of their home for years until, in the summer of 2016, the Canadian Constitution Foundation was instrumental in negotiating with the Ontario Civil Forfeiture department to drop the lien against the Montague home. The Canadian Constitution Foundation deserves our support as they continue to fight other cases of injustice around the country. YOU COULD BE NEXT! Canada is undergoing a quiet revolution and your fundamental rights and freedoms are at stake!

Sep11: Bruce Montague Arrested

News Archive Index

Saturday, 11 September 2004

CUFOA executive officer and Dryden, Ontario, gunsmith Bruce Montague was arrested by the OPP this morning at 9 a.m. while attending a gun show in Dryden.

Bruce was purchasing a saddle for his 10 year old daughter when an OPP constable informed him that he had an warrant for Bruce's arrest. The OPP placed Bruce in custody, searched Bruce's vehicle and then took him "down town" for lock-up.

Someone at the guns show called Bruce's wife Donna and told her that Katey needed to be pick-up. When Donna arrived an the gun show, the OPP arrested Donna also.

The OPP questioned Donna for two hours and then released her, but warned her NOT to return to her home for two days as the OPP have a two-day warrant to search their house and yard.

Bruce is now in a Dryden jail cell. His bail hearing may be as early as Monday, but may not occur until Wednesday.

The OPP have charged both Donna and Bruce with "unauthorized possession of a firearm," Section 91(1) of the Criminal Code.

Donna has to submit to finger printing on 16 October, and is to appear in court on 23 October.

The OPP are playing hardball. These arrests this morning seemed to have been planned.

Bruce has been openly practicing his gun smiting trade for the past six months without a firearms license. While we can shoot skeet openly in Saskatchewan with unregistered firearms and NO firearms licenses, Bruce is arrested.

Jack Wilson & I are leaving this afternoon to see what we can do for Bruce on Monday morning.

Any of you with news media contacts, please forward this information to them.

Sincerely,

Eduardo
